Default Firefighter settles lawsuit over dog food in spaghetti

Think twice about firehouse pranks -- they might backfire:

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- The city will pay $1.43 million to settle claims by a black firefighter who said he suffered harassment and discrimination after co-workers served him spaghetti laced with dog food, officials announced Friday.

Once again the lawyers have made this a better world for all of us. Does anyone have a sense of humor anymore????
I think he was lucky it was dog food and not something worse.

BTW- The article says he particpated in some of the hazing himself.

Jokes are jokes and I don't know the whole extent of the situation and I am sure this guy was not totally innocent but if anyone put dog food in my spaghetti they will be in a world of hurt ! (Being an Italian we get upset about that type of thing ) Hell what if that food was from China !

    Thumbs down

These settlements are going to start making a big impact on the department's budget. I wish they would have taken this to trial. The 7 million it would have cost to fight it if it went to trial would have been worth it in my opinion. Hopefully people wont start brining out other "hazing" incidents in hopes of more settlements.

Maybe it will actually prevent hazing from occurring, or at least, let chiefs and other supervisors know it should not be tolerated.

    Default Com-on guy's

It was dog food, come one. Im sure he has eaten worse as a kid. Hazzing is just a way to let off steam and have alittle fun. I've never hazed anyone I didn't like or think wasn't a friend. Just my .02 cents worth.

Just when I thought I've heard of the most ignorant lawsuit ever...the CA lawyers manage to crank another one out

You know, as a kid, I ate slugs and bb's. Yeah that's right. Those slimy snail things and lead airgun bb's. And I survived. And I'm doing fine. So I am very VERY certain that the dog food will not kill him.

Harassment and discrimination? Uh huh. Sure. I bet.

I am wondering something...if he were a white guy, would this have even made it past day 1 in the courts? Makes one pretty curious, don't it?
