    hey i have a question ,

a friend recently moved back to Cali im pretty sure to San Diego i believe but anywho he was a Firefighter and emt here in NC for 5 yrs and he missed home too much and moved back is it true that cali has its own standards and does not accept other stats certs. because he was talking about how he now has to go to a fire college and basically get picked out of there ?

This is true. California has some of the highest standards in the nation and doesnt have resiprosity with other states, IFSAC or Pro-Board.

But, the entrance for these state positions are pretty open and dont require a lot, exept the Paramedic card.

I'm getting out of California! It is WAY too crowded here, and I don't like the smog or the lack of vegetation. I'm looking into Austin, Tx.

I was actually looking into Riverside City Fire, since I was an explorer there for 3 years. It is an awesome department to work for.

Any fire job beats flipping burgers. And no 3%@50 at the ambulance companies.

I may look into California. Though I love my local department. but I would still love to work almost anywhere.

Bou, I read the flier, but what is the difference between a local California firefighter and a state firefighter? Are the state positions with the Forestry Service?

    Keepback:
There are certain cities and counties that contract with the California Dept of Forestry and Fire Protection to provide staffing for their stations and apparatus. The stations and apparatus in such an arrangement are owned by the city/county in question, and the city/county then pays CDF (CALFIRE, blah they'll always be CDF!) to provide the people--generally including the admin staff and chief officers as well as the line officers and FFs.

Then there are specific stations that are owned, operated, and staffed by CDF on either a year-round (Schedule A) or seasonal (Schedule B) status, generally these stations are found in the mountains and foothills of the Sierra Nevada and Coast Mountain Ranges.

CDF is also the State's Forestry agency, and contains forest, rangeland, and wildlife management and recreation use elements in addition to the fire suppression aspects of the agency. They maintain and operate several State Forests and Nurseries.

Basically, they are the State equivalent of the US Forest Service. Like the USFS, CDF "Forestry" personnel are trained in basic fire suppression and may be pressed into service as suppression personnel if the need arises.
My opinions might coincide with someone of importance's POV... I wouldn't know, since I never bothered to ask. My policy is: "Don't ask, don't care."

I see. So it would be possible to have a local job with state benefits?

Kind of. Remember you still work for CDF, just in a local area that contracts with CDF for staffing.
And you can be "put-out" if the city/county decides to drop the contract and start "their own" department (Tulare County, anyone?)... then you go wherever there's a spot for you. Either that or quit and apply at the new department. *shrug*
