    Sept 20th

Firefighters in Scioto County continue to fight a fire that's been burning for over a day now.

The first is in Portsmouth between Rosemonth and State Route 139. Witnesses tell WASZ five volunteer fire departments are on scene. We’re told there firefighters are doing back breaking work to put out the fire including using chain saws, hand rakes, and drip torches.

Firefighters made a fire line earlier Thursday, but the flames made it across and continue to move

    Default Ironton

    Sept 2007

Firefighters from four states arrived in Ironton Saturday to help fight a brush fire that has already burned 13 acres and is getting close to homes.

Peter Toe is in Ironton from Illinois to help put out a brush fire that has been burning since Friday night.

This fire has needed seven local fire departments to contain it.

And because it is next to Ironton city limits, it needs to be 100% contained before these crews pack up and leave.

An apartment complex is just at the bottom of the ridge where 12 acres already burned.

Although fire officials say they were never in danger, it still caused Shaina Frascure and her mom to relocate over the weekend.

"It's really scary, because I stay here by myself with my handicapped mom," Shaina, a Rock Hill High School Student, said. "And at nighttime if it happens again im not sure I can get her back up to get her to safety."
