    Default Alternative Grant Sources

So aside the AFG grants, my fire dept is looking for alternative sources for grant money. We have an Engine that is approaching 35 years old that needs to go big time. We have another engine that is about 25 years old although it's in generally good shape. We're also approaching desperation for building expansion.

Aside the AFG, anyone know other grant sources, other government agencies, corporations, companies, etc?

We're a rural fire dept with 4 paid staff and about 15 volunteer firefighters.

Check the following 2 websites; Brian & Kurt both keep a list of different grant opportunities.

My pet hobby horse. FEPP thru your forester (if they bother).

With a bit of work/time you can solve just about every equipment issue. And no grant app to fill out.

Been looking around here for quite a while but thought I would jump in on the fun.

I know in several states local casinos often have grant programs and hand out money a couple times a year. I've seen them anywhere from 1,000 all the way up to 25,000.

Also, if you have any large corporations in your area, check them out. Even if you don't, one of your local businesses might be a vendor or a dealer of a corporation that has grant program.

    Lightbulb Check out local USDA

The USDA usually has some funding available for trucks and stations through an emergency services program. You usually have a pretty large percentage of matching, but they offer a loan for the that. Matching is based off the average income of your district, size and your budget. I hear that it may help your chances if you apply for both a grant and a loan to purchase a truck. It's government, so there is plenty of paperwork and redtape, but it's an option. I know of a local department that funded the purchase of a firehouse (existing structure) with USDA monies. We are currently working on a pumper/tanker through them. They have funded everything from engines to aerials, new to used. It depends on how much you qualify for and how much they have.

    Default Wal-mart

Wal-Mart has been very good to us over the last several years. They have donated pallets of bottled water to use for rehab along with items that we raffle off at fund raisers. I also put in a request into Wal-Mart to fund our department to send someone to Kurt's seminar. They got back to us yesterday to tell us that they were going to give us $1,000 so that we could make it happen.

Mike are you still coming to the Nashville one or are you holding out for one at the lakes?

Also do you remember the Community Development Block Grant that we have here? I guess you have it or something like it in MO.

I am planning coming to one in Nashville. That gives me reason to visit home.

The way the fire districts are setup here I have not been able to find a CDBG that we qualify for.

Have you city clerk or county auditor point you towards the regional COG (Council of Governments). They are the "experts" at working the CDBG program (always to their profit but perhaps useful to getting your project done. COGs are a particulairly dispicable little socialist tool that was created to "help" pass out fed pork and to grow fed paperwork (and control over local gov't), but the conduit to the $ the process makes available.
