Is this for city of Las Vegas only? Or does it include Henderson as well?

What do Medics make in Vegas? Do they run EMS as well (ambulances)? And if so, do medics alternate out on the bus and apparatus?

    Thanks.

If you visit this site, you will get pretty much everything you need

    http://lasvegasnevada.gov/Apply/jobs.htm

    Hope this helps!

And on another note, what are the departments policies on tattoos? I do not have any but a friend of mine is planning on putting in an application as well. Also, is this just for Las Vegas or Henderson as well? I presume, Vegas only

    Post ...

I've been trying to post in here but it won't let me. . .Hopefully it will work this time.

Anyway, I had a couple of questions regarding this. First, what is the policy on tattoos? And secondly, I assume this is only for the Las Vegas FD and not the Henderson one. If so, do you know where I can find out when the Henderson will be accepting applications as well? Thanks!

No tattoo policy and I don't know about Henderson you would just have to contact their HR dept. to find out. Sorry

Something to think about with the Vegas Deaprtments- Over the last 10+ years, they got use to California applicants coming over, getting a job and then bailing out of hte state in 2 or 3 years.

If you going to test there, prep. out a mental game plan. If you really want the job, make it clear its for the long haul. They know whats up and the past history of the Cali applicants.

This might save you some time, money and headache.

On the website it says 95% EMS calls. Do you guys still get your fair share of MVAs and fire call? I want to be on a busier dept if possible, although I'd still go anywhere that takes me. Just wondering because I'd be coming down from Wisconsin. I'm only 20 and I don't have much money so I can't apply everywhere I'd really like to.

We run a boat load of MVA's so don't worry about that.As for fire it depends on what Battalion your in. Downtown you will get fires.

So it's really like any other bigger dept?(other than like New York, Chicago, Detroit)

Do you guys run with ambulances or do you respond with engines and have privates transport?

Also, how do you like living there? I've never been to Vegas, so I don't know much about it.

    Thanks.

Good idea. I'll send you a PM if I apply for sure. I'm a 60-hour shift tonight(fri night-mon morning) at the fire house. So I'll know by Monday or Tuesday.

We do run rescues and engines on medicals and AMR is transport here.
Rescue goes out before engines and then if another call comes in the engine goes. The FF/Medics and FF/EMT rotate every other shift from rescue to engine. All units are ALS except for our trucks.

As for living here I'm from Kansas City, I really like it. No snow or ice, very little rain. But not a good place to live if you have an addictive personality.
PM if you want more info.

10 years ago, I was a FF in the Vegas area. I now miss it, even with my addictive personality.

I'm a bit confused. . .are you saying there is a policy against tattoos or that there is no policy on tattoos? Sorry, but the answer confused me. . .also, how long does the whole process take? I'd like to visit my family in Europe next summer. How often does the LVFD recruit?

No, there is no tattoo policy. They have been running an academy about 1 every 9 months. No idea on how long the whole process takes it's been 10 years since I went through it.

Another department to think about is the North Las Vegas Fire Department. We should be accepting apps sometime this fall for a spring academy. We are just exploding in terms of growth. We run with LVFR all the time, as we share a border with them. In the Vegas area, it all depends where you are. If you get to a station on the east side, or one of the older neighborhoods, you will get plenty of fire calls.

The whole Vegas valley is set up on a dual response system - you get one fire apparatus and one private ambulance, either AMR or MedicWest. We also have mutual aid - so the city guys run into North Las Vegas, we run into the county. I have been on many a fire were we have rigs from LVFR, NLVFD, and Clark County fire. All three departments are awesome to work for. The pay is all comparable, along with the benefits - plus all are growing really fast.

No sweat, it almost seems weird when I actually say North Las Vegas, its North Town to us! (hint DO NOT say North Town in your oral boards, make sure to say North Las Vegas.)
