our department is starting to spec out a rig for next year. I was wondering if anyone knew of any grant/grants that would help pay for the rig.
Thanks

grant funding for rig
One of the best web sites for grants is the Responder Knowledge Base – www.rkb.us. It is run by DHS and FEMA. To access the site, you must be a firefighter, law enforcement officer or other public emergency response agency member.
Some programs out there include:
1. Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program (CEDAP) – through DHS. See – www.rkb.us. This is the best program to get some equipment for your rig because there is no money exchanged. If you get an award, they send you the specific equipment you selected. The best option in 2007 for hazmat teams was the "chemical identification kit" which included the Ahura FirstDefender chemical identifier and the MSA Sirius 4 gas/PID. You are not eligible if you have received UASI (large urban areas) funding or have received a Fire Act Grant. The 2008 program might be different.
2. Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) Grants – Designated DHS funding specifically for large urban areas. Usually administered through state agencies. See http://www.dhs.gov/xgovt/grants/index.shtm for state contacts.
3. Buffer Zone Protection Plan Grant – coordinated through DHS and your state administrating agency (SAA). Provides funding for the planning, equipment, and management of protective actions, with the objective of protecting, securing, and reducing the vulnerabilities of identified critical infrastructure and key resource (CI/KR) sites such as banking centers, shopping centers, chemical facilities, power generating facilities, refineries, government facilities and transportation hubs. See - http://www.dhs.gov/xlibrary/assets/g...protection.pdf
4. Byrne Grants – US Dept of Justice program directed mostly toward state and local drug task forces – see http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/BJA/grant/jag.html.
5. Transportation Security Grant – see http://www.tsa.gov/join/grants/index.shtm. Funding to provide equipment and training for agencies involved in securing bus, train, ferry, trucking and airline terminals/routes.
6. Assistance to Firefighters Grant – see http://www.firegrantsupport.com/. Provides funds to fire departments to enhance their ability to protect the public and fire service personnel from fire and related hazards.
