Is it true that if you put in enough hours as a reserve, the station could hire you as a firefighter? If true, what are the odds of that?

Did you ask someone in that particular department??? They could probably tell you better than anyone here.

Jradaza- What state, what county, what department? No one can give you an answer in here.
Every program and department is different.

It has to do with that particular department you are working for. The ones who could offer you the best advice and most accurate information are those down at the firehouse. So go down there and ask. On your way get some ice cream. No cheap stuff either.
Just for your information that is why most career departments have reserve programs. To have a pool of candidates for possible hire that already know the department and how things are done.
Just keep in mind. It can make you or break you. Work for a good reputation and keep it. It takes an entire career to build a good repore and a split second to ruin it.

Don't listen to any of these guys. The fire department wants YOU! They'll hire you sight unseen. Forget about those useless tests. Background problems? No problem! Credit problems? No problem! Your job is your credit! Stop by any station and ask for the special brochure. And if you hurry the fire department will even give you a special sticker for the back window of your vehicle! Its our way of saying "Thanks".
