Fallen Utah Firefighter Remembered at National Ceremony

(KSL News) A fallen Utah firefighter was honored today during a national ceremony.

Spencer Koyle, 33, died last year while fighting a wildfire in Fishlake National Forest. Today Koyle was one of 91 firefighters remembered during the memorial in Maryland.

President Bush joined families and friends of firefighters from all over the country for the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.

The president greeted each family, shaking hands and hugging those who've lost loved ones.

"It takes a special person to be a firefighter," he said. "It begins with a different sense of direction. When an area becomes too dangerous for anybody else, you take it over. When others are looking for an exit, firefighters are looking for a way in."

The event, to remember the fallen firefighters, has been held every year since 1982.
