If your fire certs are ProBoard, they should be good. As far as National Registry EMS training, you will have to challenge the state test, but I wouldn't think you would have to take the course again.

Is Fairfax actively hiring, or building a list?

Cool, what is the hiring process like there? Do they use the CPAT? And what is the rookie school like?

If your still looking everyone in the Tidewater area is hiring right now, Suffolk, Norfolk, Newport News, Hampton, Portsmouth, Va Beach. The pay is pretty good for the cost of living in the area, and they all have their ups and downs, if your a Medic you've got to have murdered someone not to get hired.

I thought someone with more current info would have grabbed onto this by now, but...

Anyway, take a look at the recruitment website I linked to earlier. That will give you a comprehensive look at the process.

Rookie School isn't bad. A little over 20 weeks. Tough, but good for ya.

Have you heard rumors on when Chesapeake might be advertising again?? I was offered and job there in 2006 and could not accept due to financial and family reasons. Had to take a position with the National Park Service in Florida. I have 12 years into the VA Retirement system as a FF and am thinking about coming back to finish my last 13 years.

Although it does not say when they will be starting the process.

    Don't forget central VA

Richmond, Chesterfield, Colonial Heights, Petersburg, etc.

As far as NREMT, I know once I finish testing my NREMT - I, all I'll have to do is apply for my state cert.

Central VA is a great place to work. Spent 10 years with Henrico County and loved it. The only reason I left was because I had a wildland firefighting itch that I couldn't scratch with Henrico.

I am really missing the structural side though. Had the opportunity to go back to work for them and was offered a job in Chesapeake, both of which I had to turn down for personal/financial reasons at the time. Looking to get geared up for starting to apply again though. Although after the last offer from Henrico, not sure if they are willing to offer again.
