In June of 2008 I will become a Cadet. Since Christmas is coming around the corner, I am in need of a list of things i may need as a cadet. For example: Fire proof Gloves. I do not visit my soon to be Department alot at all, i do not have an idea of what i ill need. So I'm just looking for the normal necessities i will need. Thanks.

Your department should be issuing you all of the "necessities".
Anything else you may find a need for later, you can always add then.
Fire Gloves, bunker gear, helmet, hood, boots, radios, pagers, and all of that, should be given to you upon entering the department.

You might want to stock up on some underwear. It seems a lot of the new guys need to change them more often than anyone else.

I'm not sure how your department works, but in my Explorer post you're issued everything that you need.
Such as:
- 1 set of turnouts
- 1 helmet
- 1 hood
- 1 pair of gloves
- 1 pair of boots
- 1 pair of accountability tags
In my post, you only have to purchase the class A uniforms (formal). They issue you your patches.
Extra things I bought was a Cairns 1044 w/ 4" faceshield, a dept. shirt with "EXPLORER" written under the maltese cross, a dept. hat, and a pair of Bates steel toe black work boots.FDNY | 343 | NEVER FORGET
