We have discussed in the forum about Detroit not producing the Series 60 engine after 2010. Here's an article providing information on the replacement engine: The DD15.
I noticed the DD15 has a sigificant increase in torque, and is quieter than the current 60. It also has twin turbochargers like the Caterpillar.
Take a look and offer your comments:

Dd15...
Talked with Detroit Diesel and they said that this new engine would be available for use in fire apparatus in late 2008 or early 2009. This also depends on the manufacturer! They also said that the Series 60 will be produced until 2016.
