    Default Free Lotto message

Has anyone else had a message from Free Lotto claiming they had won money?
This happened to me in my FireHouse e-mail account.
I'm treating it as SPAM, just wondering if it has happened to anyone else?

Yup, I get a lot of weird spam at that account. You can usually tell by the e-mail address (.uk, etc.). If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Answer and they'll ask for bank account information so they can 'deposit the winnings', send you a check (which will later turn out to be no good) but ask you to wire them a percentage back to cover 'taxes and fees', ask for personal information to 'verify your identity', or any combination of the three.

Proceed one step further and someone in the exchange has really hit the lottery but it ain't you.

It is a very common scam. What surprises me is that it snares victims every single day.

    Talking Not only you!

My favourite is the Nigerian scam--a person who is by their account in a refugee camp in the middle of nowhere --no food/shelter/poverty beyond belief, their Father/Mother/sister/brother Uncle Tom Cobbly just died in a plane crash. Just happens to have a laptop that the opposing force has kindly let them keep(yeah, right) and they have access to 60 gazzillion $US--they then decide that some stranger in a country they have never heard of(and usually can't spell) can have half. If I had responded to all of the scam "E" mails I have received in this and similar vein, I could theoretically feed the entire worlds starving populace/cure AIDS/find the fountain of youth/turn water into petrol-and also treat all members of Firehouse Forums to a real night on the town!

I got one not long ago from someone claiming to be a USMC Captain who found a pile of money during his tour in the sandbox and needed help getting it into the US without too much attention.
Since I immediately thought of the movie"The Three Kings",I asked my sister to get me the number of NCIS at Millington and turned the email over to them.
Don't know what it would do to the number of spam messages I get,but if there is an officer who'd found anything he didn't report to his chain of command,he's getting some unwanted attention now.
I mean, what serviceman or woman has NEVER thought of stuffing their seabag with souvenirs when they rotate home?Scams irk me to begin with but stupid ones deserve what they get.
