    Unhappy Hiring time?

How long did it take you guys to get hired as explorers and juniors? I have had my application in for at least three months and I have heard a little back but have not been hired yet and I am so anxious to start.

Hired? You will be a non-combat observer/gofer who is a member of the BSA, ASSOCIATED with, not working for, the city/state/township dept you applied for.

It took me the better part of 2 months before we had a meeting, issued my shirt, and I could start riding. Call the adviser, see whats up.

Remember, you are NOT a firefighter/EMT/Medic. You are there to learn, observe, and help with minor tasks, once trained to do so.

Ok well accepted or whatever you want to call it. My station called it being hired and so thats what I said. I know I am there to learn and just observe and I am not a firefighter/emt/paramedic yet. Thanks for the answer though. :-)

i think he means more on the lines of ending the junior/explorer status and applying for a job at a fire dept as an actual empoyee (over 18 or 21)

    could be wrong

    Red face

Nope sorry. I meant getting accepted for being a junior/explorer. Sorry for the confusion.

If you read the post you will see that they are still waiting to be accepted as a JR firefighter/Explorer or what ever they refer to them as where they are.
    And futureemt73193:
I dont know about your department but if its like mine there probably waiting for there next officers meeting or Chiefs meeting what ever it maybe to vote on your application.

and for those of you who are going to make rude comments to this yes i did have to wait for the next department buisness meeting before i was accepted as a JR firefighter, it has to be a departmental vote to accept my application then 6 months later there is another vote to accept me as a non probationary member and become a non probationary Jr firefighter.. Which is happening this monday in my case!

oh, ok. I know a lot of guys that try to apply as a career from an explorer/junior (though, not necessarily at the same dept) once they are old enough and usually are a medic or EMT

getting on the post for me, it was just waiting till they had the next meeting, which is normally bi-monthly. after a few meetings (or officially, 3 months), you're removed from a probationary period and issued turnout gear and what not.

Watch the attitude there bud, you dont know whether this person is talking about an explorer post or a cadet position, in which case you ARE an employee of the city and ARE under city insurance.

Now it seems he is talking about an Explorer post so your description is correct, but you still need to consider the info before you take a demeaning tone with anyone.

    What attitude?
He's applying to be a cadet... and yes I understand he'll be under the city's insurance.

Hired??? Wow, when I joined my explorer post I just went to a meeting with a friend of mine who was an explorer and filled out some paperwork. Then 3 weeks later they issued me gear (which I had to keep at the station) and I was participating in drills, and after 6 weeks I could take my gear home. Like someone else said, you're there to learn, not to be an actual member of the department. Hired! Haha...

Oh, and to whoever said you were an employee of the department when you're an explorer that is a load of crap...you're not getting paid therefore you're not an employee. But, you are under their insurance.

    Cool

Nope still here. I made a mistake by saying getting hired. I meant just getting accepted. Now that it was pointed out I see the difference. Oh and just to let ya'll know I'm a girl.
