Now I know why they are so expensive.

After seeing the guy bend the brim by hand, which I didn't know before, I now know why no to lids are the same!

    Thanks for sharing!

Brother, that was AWESOME. Thanks for that link!

Does anyone here know what the Bronx Bend is all about?
I saw him bending the leather on the vid, and remember seeing said bend in lids before.
Is it a "tough guy" thing, or is there a purpose to it?

Your talking about a leather lid bent like this right?

I think the "purpose" of it, other than just the look, is so the brim doesnt stick out so far and doesnt hit the top of your SCBA bottle.

i heard the origination of the bend was so if something fell on the back of your helmet you wouldnt get your neck broken.

forgive the "newness" she had to see any action when i took this

My kids and I love that show, but what's with the female announcer? All of our shows have a male announcer.

I've only heard of it done to allow you to look up without it hitting the BA cylinder. Not enough of an issue for me with my N6A, so I left the brim alone.

Cool Video, it was very was nice to see some things are still handmade today.

I am thinking about buying a N6A, but I was wondering if anyone who owns a N6A can tell me how much they soften in a fire? Does the leather flex enough under thermal stress that it loses some of its protective qualities? Also, is the N6A easily maintainable as far as cracks in the leather? Thank you in advance for any replies.

You will still have plenty of protection. As far a cracks and maintenance, as long as you leave the shape of the helmet as it is it will have a very long life. When you start to bend the leather you are going to run into problems and shorten the life of the helmet.

I have 3 leathers right now. 2 N6A's and a 5A. You cant go wrong with leather IMO.

*edit* they had a rerun of this episode on tonight.

What a coincidence I should come home and see this thread...this episode was the talk of the station tonight, but with me not having cable TV I hadn't gotten to see the show.

I'm glad the youtube link was posted on here so I could take a look.
