Early Morning Occupied Orem House Fire
Early morning fire breaks out in Orem home
A fire broke out in an Orem home early Wednesday morning.
The owner of the home, located at 1036 E. Riverside Drive, reported moving items from his garage to plastic tubs near a stove in his downstairs family room, according to the Orem Department of Public Safety. When he returned, around 12:25 a.m., the room was filled with smoke.
The homeowner woke his sleeping wife and children and got them safely out of the house before calling dispatch, according to police. When officers and fire crews arrived, they found the basement of the home fully engulfed in flames.
The fire was contained before it spread to the upper levels of the split-level home, but the house did sustain significant smoke damage, police said. The fire caused the ground level of the home to fall into the basement, where the fire originated.
Orem fire officials reported no injuries and were still trying to determine the exact cause of the blaze on Wednesday morning. The damage to the home is estimated between $130,000 and $150,000.
