    Default Ladder evac

I heard there is a training video online for how to slide down a ladder head first in case of emergancy. Do any of you guys know where this video is?

I don't know of this video, but I have seen it done in person, during training only. Attempted it myself, but almost broke my neck....hehehe.

This is NOT a drill you want to try to learn from a video alone! It is imperative that someone that has previously had the proper training, teach this drill and that the necessary safety measures are in place.

Trying to learn it from just a video will end up with a trip to the ER.

From the way that I was taught in Saving Our Own by the Illinois fire service institute...that video is slightly wrong. The FF was too far down the ladder when he started it. The proper way is...over 1, under 2, grab 3, and stiff arm 4 with the opposite arm. The numbers are the rung numbers on the ladder. To teach it, you should always have a safety line and is best to start doing it without SCBA and work your way to it. If it is not done right you either break your arm or fall off the ladder. It is designed for EVAC! Of course it has to be practiced! Not something to learn once and try to rely on it years later. Most folks call it a "Ladder Bailout."
