I, personally, never left school for the alarm as I never had my pager on, but I did go to a lot of fire's before school. I would just sign in as normal and tell the principal what the deal was and I was excused.
Just know, I chose my own fate. I drove by the fork in the road and went straight.

If I came in late, I had to deal with the standard punishment for being tardy, unless the specific teacher agreed to excuse me.

If I missed the day, I was granted an "excused absence" but had to turn the homework in the next morning before the attendance bell rang or else I could be marked off. I only missed two days of high school because of "fire calls" before school hours. One was at the end of Christmas vacation when we had a fire at around 3AM in the morning, and the other was at the end of Thanksgiving break the following November that occured on a Sunday night.

My principal was very easygoing about things, but the senior administration under him was always very critical about it.

If I was late I just walked into the office, said I was at a call, they put the excused on my late slip and all was well. No punishment no nothing, because really they could not do anything, unless I was missing a test or exam.
If someone with multiple personalities threatens to kill himself, is it considered a hostage situation?
