Five Hurt In Crash Involving Fire Truck

A crash involving a Lexington Fire Department ladder truck and an SUV sent five people to hospital with minor injuries early Friday morning.

The crash happened at about 3:30 a.m. at the intersection of University Drive and Cooper Drive. Officials say the fire truck was returning to the firehouse after a run when the crash occurred. Police say the SUV, driven by Michael H. Sordini, 19, of Fort Worth, Texas ran a red light.

Three people in the SUV were taken to UK Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, and two firefighters were sent to the hospital as a precaution.

Early Friday morning, an S.U.V. collided with a fire truck on UK's campus.

It happened about 3:30 Friday morning at University Drive and Cooper Drive.

Investigators tell Action News 36 the ladder truck was not on an emergency run when the crash happened.

The three people in the S.U.V. were taken to UK Chandler Hospital but we're told their injuries are not life-threatening.

Two firefighters also went to the hospital with some minor injuries as a precaution.

Investigators don't know the exact cause.

But University Drive was shut down for several hours, including well into the rush hour commute.
