Hello my name is ben brown and I was at a department that does water/dive rescues. On their truck they had a steel rim with a rod welded to the top, with an eyehook at the end of the rod. Do any of you guys know what the name of the tool is or what it is used for? Thanks

If this tool is rather large, I believe it is the same thing we use to conduct circular search patterns underwater. The ring acts as an anchor, and the search line to the diver(s) is connected to the post via the eyehook. The eyehook spins freely around the post so you can conduct the search pattern.

That's what it is used for.
We never had a lot of luck with that set up. Let us know if they have a lot of luck with it or if it is just on the rig.

We've loved using ours, and it gets a lot of use. Maybe because we designed and built it ourselves, I don't know. Most of our water here is pretty clear though, and it serves as a great anchor for the main bouy due to its weight. It also comes apart rather easily.

Several years ago, we just called ours the circle search.
It was homemade. I can only remember using it a few times though due to the layout and bottom composition of the water in our area.
