ok so im 16 im a junior in high school and i plan on going in to the airforce as a firefighter after i graduate. The only question i have is if you are deployed to a military zone like Iraq will you get to fight or do you just stay at a base? Thanks for your time!

typically you don't go 'outside the wire' there are T-coded fire fighters that go with the convoy army/air force teams.. but htat is a special assignment code, they also have rams teams that respond outside the gate.. for the most part though you'll stay in the rear with the gear.. to date we've only lost one firefighter in a deployed capacity.. and that was a drowning .. not even combat related.. we also have airborne firefighters.. they are attached to a red horse team that goes in and sets up bare bases.. they see a little more 'action' then just the regular fire guys..
hope this helps..
