    Default GMC Wins Test

For years we've been saying it but now Popular Mechanics has proved it. The GMC Sierra 3500 with the Duramax diesel engine beat the Ford F-350 PowerStroke and the Dodge 3500 Cummins.

But can it carry anything other than a pick-up bed?

Don't bet the farm on it. Another Magazine will come out with a test and one of the other guys will win. They do it all the time with the cars, look how many cars are named "Car of the Year".

Work it a million miles under LOAD and tell me what you think of the GM's then.Cracked frames, busted front ends, fuel injection pumps, NO THANKS! We got the GM's out of our fleet years ago,and I'm NEVER going back. I'll buy a Dodge first(yuck). T.C.

Yes. Pick up be delete is a factory option or you can order it as a DRW Cab Chassis.

And for those who got GM out of the fleet "years ago", these trucks are not your mother's Oldsmobile. I have a utility (water company) customer who's using them exclusively in 18 states without any problems.

These "trucks"may not be my mothers Olds but I know what we tow and I know what the garage side of our operation works on every day.I'm not suggesting your results are the same but we (LRT)run our equipment upwards of a million before we retire them.Neither we(nor a majority of our GM customers)have had any luck WORKING the GM's to half that much less the million.Oh,the engine might come close but the other problems I mentioned manifest themselves long before that.Steve,I know you sell GM's. I DON'T SELL for any mfg but I know which ones survive in OUR demanding business enviornment. For US,that is not a GM REGARDLESS of age. Anybody that wants one is certainly entitled to buy one,it's a free country. I work hard for my money. While I can buy a GM for $10K less than my Fords cost me,by my experience(and the shops) it will cost me WELL over that savings in downtime and repairs. When you're in the Towing game you want to twist the key and go.Everybody has different "likes" and experiences but we'll be Ford until I retire even if it means going South or West to get what I need(want). And FWIW, I'm no fan of the 6.0 or the 6.4,the older 7.3's were a pretty good platform. T.C.
