Default Where is the US/worlds largest FIRE STATION

I know that FDNY is the worlds largest fire department, but does anyone know where the largest fire "STATION" in the world is, or even the largest STATION in the US?

FDNY is not the worlds largest Department. I believe if you check, you will find that the Tokyo, Japan Fire Department is the worlds largest department.

I think some further definition is required by "largest fire station".

    Largest by....

    ... most rigs?
    ... most bays?
    ... most square footage overall?

I'm curious as to how you define Worlds Largest Fire Department too. Number of members, number of vehicles, number of stations?

Is this an exercise in "Mine's bigger than yours"? Or just for fun and curiosity?

    Cool Largest Fire Dept.

Haven't confirmed it yet..... I was told by our Training Chief that CalFire is the largest Fire Dept. in the U.S. Not really sure, but it would make sense. I would think U.S.F.S. would be close also, but I guess it's not so.

    Smile Sorry So Long

Everyone sorry it took me so long to reply it's not telling me when people send a reply. I guess what I mean by largest FIRE STATION, is a 3 fold questions:

    1. How many square feet?
    2. How many apparatus"
3 my main point how many bays?

There has to be some FD out there with some out landishly large station, bays, and apparatus all wrapped in one. The reason I ask, is due to plain curiousity. I've always wanted to know and I would love to go and see it.

Back in 1987 I was in Innsbrook, Austria and their headquarters had somewhere near 10 bays and staff to man most of it. The station had a laundry, sewing room (back then they made their own uniforms) shops and of course living quarters as well as a drill site.
The satilite stations were all volunteer and most of the full timers were here.
Don't know if that was the largest but, it was rather impressive.

Sorry mate, not so. Each State and Territory runs things it's own way, the only thing that's nationawide is the training concept. And even that training gets local variations.

An example? My State has three main fire authorities. One predominantly structural, one structural and wildfire and one wildfire only. Plus we have some federal fire stations at major airports. We have privately run contractors on the armed forces bases. We have privately run (but under the control of one of the major authorities) forestry brigades on the larger timber plantations. And maybe some others.

The largest (by number of engine bays) fire station in Australia? No idea. MFESB Station 1 (Eastern Hill) in Melbourne is probably the largest in Victoria, I think it has about 8 bays across the front but I could be wrong!

That is Steadman Station, it is one big house. The tower is not part of the station though, it is now an art gallery.

According to Skyscraper.net 40-35's building is slightly taller.

They must have some pretty darn long firepoles to get down to the bays from the Chief's top floor office!!!

Default If we are counting the bays...

In the world: 10 bays isn't much... Our local full time station has something like 18 bays, over 20 vehicles, a bunch of hookload containers and a helicopter. A lot of those vehicles are utility vehicles, staffing won't fill all seats: battalion, around 6 firemen, helicopter crew and medical crew. That's far from the biggest station as far as bays go.

For a real one, i think the Feuerwache 1 & BKRZ / Eckenheim in Frankfurt, Germany is very large, just look at this video: http://www.rescue911.de/details.php?...4c0e660b68ce90
You can see gates numbering 58...60 behinde the glass doors of the first gates and i don't think it stops there either, i have no real numbers.

Here in Omaha our Central Station has 18 guys stationed here. 2 engines, 1 aerial, 1 Battalion chief, 1 shift supervisor, and 2 med units all fully staffed. I've heard it's one of the bigger stations around but haven't ever got any confirmation on that. It was built back in the 1960's, and originally had 30 on duty guys!
