What type of antifreeze is safe to use in pressurized water extinguishers?
Non-flammables :D
In all seriousness, I just take a shot-glass full of standard automotive coolant/anti freeze (non-diluted 100% mix) and dump it in there.
If its in a car that gets moved I wouldnt even worry about it. The moving of the car breaks up the ice if it even forms. If I was to do it I would get RV anti freeze which is non-toxic and considered food grade by the FDA. That way when it goes off by accident you wont go blind or start ****ing out of other orifices!
Like Jonny says.I wouldn't use automotive, leaves an icky slimy mess.RV works mint.Oh,by the way Jonny, you leave a PW non treated around here in the winter it will either look funny(fat)or be two piece. On a rig, you've got about 2-3 hrs outside and you better find a warm spot. T.C.
Yeah I believe the safe stuff is pink in color.
http://www.peakantifreeze.com/rvmarine.htm --- works just fine
Just remember that anti freeze if left for many years can become flammable.
Is the shot glass quantity sufficient?
ive seen one can bleve and that was at a rippin 3rd alarm in the bronx. Apt door was left open on the windward side of the building the public hallway looked like the fire apt, black and almost down to the lathe. Can bleve'd somewhere in the mix, and it was at ground level and almost empty! Its hanging above the kitchen door above an unnamed Bx firehouse.
Just a half of cup (typical styrofoam cup) of the RV pink antifreeze and you will be good to go.
Have a pressurized water can on the outside step of one of our engines. Did this in the fall and never had a problem. I think it was mentioned above that the shaking of riding the engine and the antifreeze is enough to keep it from freezing.
nyckftbl- You buff :-)
Contact the manufacturer of the extinguisher to get their recommendation.
I know, you guys on Ogden always get to see the back of their helmets !
Mixture of salt water and kerosene ought to do the trick.
George.
Might pay to give people the ratios for that mix before some plonker goes BOOM.
No, we didnt set a rig on fire at a job, our's was set on fire on the way to a job! Back after a certain police trial didnt go as the local's wanted.
