Hey there everyone. I am working right now as a 911 call taker/dispatcher in Vicksburg MS. Anyway, my girlfriend is going to school in Birmingham at UAB. I have visited her several times and I like the Birmingham area. I was wondering what the Birmingham 911 center was like. I cannot find any information on them on the internet.
The 911 center where I work we take calls and dispatch police, sheriff, fire, and EMS. We usually have 4 dispatchers on duty at one time, three call taker/dispatchers and one supervisor.
Another thing I was wanting to know is can someone apply to Birmingham 911 to dispatch just one specific agency? Another words can I just be a fire dispatcher and not worry about police?

I am not 100% on this but I believe all dispatchers are hired through the Personnel Board of Jefferson County. Google for them and give them a call. The only thing I am sure about is that Birmingham Fire dispatch is a part of the fire department meaning they are not part of a regional 911 center.
