Marlborough Firefighters battled a fire at 214 Maple Street, directly across the street from Marlborough Fire Headquarters. Two Engine Companies, a Ladder Company and a Rescue responded to the alarm at 3:25 PM.

The Southborough and Sudbury Fire Departments responded with Engine companies to cover the Headquarters station and Station 3.

Firefighters had a tough time extinguishing the fire due to the construction of the building, which consisted of three apartments. Wind gusts and icing conditions from the extreme cold also hampered firefighting efforts.

At one point, the evacuation signal to get firefighters out of the building was sounded due to a heavy fire conditions on the second floor.

One firefighter was injured during firefighting operations and was transported to Marlborough Hospital for evaluation.

The Red Cross was contacted to assist the residents displaced by the fire. The house has significant damage and is uninhabitable.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Marlborough Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Unit and the State Fire Marshal.
