No, I think a guy poked at a window with an axe somewhere towards the beginning.
Now where is that Houston video that shows very similar conditions, with a successful outcome?
Oh, wait...here it is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyUta...eature=related

Proves my theory on tactics..... Either get in there and put the wet stuff on the red stuff, while ventin'..... Or stay outside and bring the hotdogs and marshmallows.....
If you're gonna burn it down, burn it down in style.....
It's simple; GPMs vs. Btus.....

A harsh reality of the fire service is that there are some fires where ti didn't make a single bit of difference whether the FD showed up or not.
This is one of them.PROUD, HONORED AND HUMBLED RECIPIENT OF THE PURPLE HYDRANT AWARD - 10/2007.

By the way, when I say "The building was gone before the first line was pulled", I mean just that. I'm not saying anything about how long it took them to that or what they should have been doing in the meantime. Frankly, the video was cut in the middle so nobody here has any idea how long it took them to do anything.
At the point the video came back on and they were in the doorway with the line, the place was toast. With no ventilation in place, sending a line into a little hut thats about to flash is stupid.Last edited by nmfire; 12-21-2007 at 07:58 AM.

While I'm not disagreeing that going into a building thats about to flash isn't smart, but..reference the video link I posted in my last post. See how the conditions are similar, see how the size of the building is probably similar as well...exactly. A little bit of ventilation, and some cajones may have done some good here. What bothers me the most is they ran around saying it's going to flash, it's going to flash....well no S**t stupid...open up the damn building, put some water on it, and boingo..it WON'T flash.

Everyone does things their own way, I guess. That is not how it would have gone here. Everything is "toast" if you wait long enough and do nothing. My favorite part was when the lady (chief?) talks about "I know he's aggressive, but it's gonna flash". Who am I to judge?

I understand that. The point I'm making is the video does not show what happened between the photographer arriving and the two guys crouching in the doorway. We don't know how long it was, who was there, what they did, how, or why. The only thing we do know is the little hut was heavily involved in fire, there was no ventilation, and they made it an exterior attack. What happened leading up to that is unknown. Why there was no ventilation, I don't know.
I agree that with some simple PPV, it probably COULD have been an interior attack but even then the place would still be roasted.Even the burger-flippers at McDonald's probably have some McWackers.

In summary,
If you're going to stand around and watch a building burn while pretending to be firefighters, it's probably not a good idea to let some spark video the whole event...

Since several people have noticed, and asked me,
NO, this was NOT my fire.
NO, this was NOT my Dept.
YES, this was in my county.
YES, I have worked with this Dept before, and have nothing but the utmost respect for the Jakes I have worked with. They are ballsy, aggressive, and not afraid to get in there and to da job.
This video is from the North end of the County. I am in the South/Central.
And YES, they are good at medical too.

I never commented on their actions in the video.
And the medical statement was a half facetious comment made.
I do my Rescue (Ambulance) clinicals with BCFR.
They have many Paramedics who are content on doing EMS. Thats all they want to do, and they consistantly ride the box.
Since I have never worked with any of these North end units, I can't comment on their actions, or lack thereof.
This video, however, does appear old. They got rid of that yellow MP gear several years back.AJ, MICP, FireMedic

Not sure but I personally try to make mine look as new as poss. Made entry plenty but learned to keep head down and wet stuff on. definatly ppv needed guess the fan was out for repair. and they didnt go in far enough to do squat. personally while it was still hot in the back a good trench cut might have helped but wait no ladders even came out. pull the cieling open it up to get it where it is hot sure spray enough water and sheetrock falls apart right.
So recap no fan
no pike poles
no ladders
no saw
no hot dogs
axe dude no gloves
nozzle dude no nomex at first
door dude never checked to see if it was locked or not
probably shouldnt stand in a doorway when about to flash and finish putting gear on
may now want to stand in doorway on initial attack steam hurts and guess where it is gonna come out
sorry but even when they had charged lines majority was still able to be saved gotta actually open nozzle its fun

I dont really want to jump into the slamfest with both feet because I admit I make mistake and not perfect on every fire.
But, lets please touch on some basics-
- We can now see why ventilation is so important. Again, VENTILATIN IS IMPORTANT. I would have loved to see the conditions change/not change once a hole was cut.
- How did that one FF get the front door open so fast while those other were wasting time on the window? (Note- Did I see that right?)
- Ok, you now went "defensive". Why only one line on the outside? One line and why did it take so long? Notice the daylight went from bright to dusk?
- As for the house already being gone when the first unit got ONS, I doubt it. They could have made progress. Could have done more.
- And why did that one FF almost do interior, then back out and then put his flashhood on? Damn man, you had Scotts' Dress up full PPE and click in and out when needed.
I dont mean to Monday morning QB the whole thing. It truely is a training video.
Please give me some feedback on my feedback.
