Those look real good!
Do the Patrols and Squads take a real long time to build, or why does always it seem that they are on chassis that are already two years old when they enter the fleet? You guys keep a stash of NOS trucks somewhere? Or wait for them to go on clearance?

I believe most LAFD apparatus when they go to auction are sold thru Nationwide Auction.

I always shake my head...
...when I see our vehicles listed under 'Apparatus Innovation'. They're simply what we drive.

Questions on setup
Just a few questions maybe a LAFD member can answer. On E59, are the crosslays still "dry" and not preconnected? It also looks like the the supply hose is larger than what they previously carried?
What are the two rear compartments shown on the officers side rear step?
Great looking rig!

Nah, I'm strong on the Fire Service in general and our agency in particular... but decry what can only be called an obsession (inside and *especially* outside our vocation) with vehicles. I get thousands of e-mails about our rolling stock each year, and am lucky to get half-a-dozen inquiries when a member suffers a very public debilitating injury. Not a single person writes or calls about wellness initiatives, but I get hundreds of notes and calls from Firefighters (yes, Firefighters!) asking about lightbars. Go figure!

Influence
Brian,
Please don't feel that you have not made an impression. I was fortunate to visit your department on two seperate occasions and spend a great deal of time with firefighters up to Assistant Chief's.Due to those visits,we now have headsets and intercoms in all of our apparatus (two engines and a truck). We use our ladder company in the same manner as you guys, especially on MVA's. The big guys really can help the little guys!
I have great memories of Batt. 17, Stations, 28,72, 33 and even OCD.
Stay safe
