In hiring process, is it normal to get the run around?

Long story short....

April 06 I sent in my application to the Chattanooga Fire Dept.

Aug 06 I got a study guide and outline for CPAT test

Dec 06 I take my written test and pass.

Feb 07 I take my CPAT and pass

Sept 07 I interview with a fire panel.

Now nothing has happend. I was told an academy would be in the spring of 08 which I understand. But I've tried emailing and calling back people and get nothing. I just want to know the next phase. I had surgery a couple months ago and they tell me a second CPAT is on the way and I want to make sure I can handle it again. I don't want to pester these people, but at the same time I run to the mailbox every day checking for a letter that never seems to come.

Is any of this normal?

I'm guessing Chattanooga is a fairly large department? That's about par for a bigger city like that. I've gone through similar experiences with bigger dept's and it's slow going. I don't know if it's because of the city's Human Resources department or if it the individual cities budget restricts them in how fast or how many people they hire. If you've had an interview then I'm thinking you're doing pretty good! Good luck to you.

Not unusual. That's why I encourage candidates to test where ever they can so they can learn the process, not have all their eggs in one basket and have multiple opportunities to make it through the maze you're experince for that elusive badge.
