Group Wants Destroyer Ship To Come To Havre De Grace

HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. -- The Havre de Grace City Council has scheduled two public hearings for this month on a proposal to bring a decommissioned naval destroyer to the Susquehanna River.
Supporters of the idea said the ship could become a floating museum and tourist attraction. They add that the city's waterfront park is an ideal site.
According to the nonprofit foundation pushing the proposal, the 418-foot USS Forrest Sherman is named for the admiral and World War II hero who lived his entire life in Maryland.
The ship was built in the 1950s and served in the ill-fated Bay of Pigs invasion. It is being repainted at a Philadelphia drydock.

I'd be for it.
Pittsburgh, PA was lucky enough to get their hands on the USS Requin submarine that was used right at the end of World War II. She was the Navy's first radar picket submarine. The Carnegie Science Center runs it. Since my grandpa was on the Requin's "sister" submarine right after WWII(his crew arrived in Asia a week after Hiroshima and Nagasaki), he took me through it a few years ago showing me where he would have been so I got a more "personal touch".
