    Unhappy Very sad

    http://www.nyc.gov/html/fdny/insider.../111108a.shtml

"Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta announced that Probationary Firefighter Jamel M. Sears died at Mt. Sinai Medical Center today, where he was taken yesterday after falling unconscious following completion of a training exercise at the Departmentís training academy on Randallís Island.

Probationary Firefighter Sears, 33, was appointed to the FDNY on July 1, 2008, and was enrolled in the 23-week Probationary Firefighters Training Program. He fell unconscious at about 11:30 a.m. after successfully completing an 18-minute training exercise where he donned full firefighting gear and performed a series of tasks and functional skills. Firefighters on scene tried to revive him but he never regained consciousness.

Probationary Firefighter Sears, a lifelong Bronx resident, was a four-year U.S. Navy veteran (1995-1999) and served aboard the USS Alaska. He also worked at TD Waterhouse as a customer rep and at Keyspan Energy as an operating mechanic prior to joining the FDNY. He graduated from All Hallows High School and attended Bronx Community College before enlisting in the Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Sherita, a New York City Police Officer assigned to the 41st Precinct in the Bronx, and their two children, son Mahlek, 12, and daughter Jya, 8.

    Funeral arrangements are pending."

God bless him and his family, rest in peace.

This happens quite frequently to people. Jackie Joyner Kersey (sp.?) dropped dead on a track during training and she won several gold medals. Some of the healthiest people die during strenuous activity.

For those of you who knew Probie F.F. Sears and those of us who didn't know him, I think that showing his family support would be the right thing to do. If anyone is available and can go to any of the services, be advised that the wake and funeral arrangements are as follows:

    Question

As FDNYUSMC stated, it's either this coming week or the week after. When I initially spoke with my investigator about a month ago, he said it would be the third week of November. However, when I spoke with him a week and a half ago, he said it'd be in the week of Nov. 24th. Anyway, does anyone have any latest update regarding the class size for the January class?

P.S. Hey, Matt(21), I have a question. Did you ever receive the letter for the run when you were processing earlier this year? Or will this letter that'll be sent out soon be your first one?

Is anybody aware of how long it normally takes CID to close each candidates case and make the final call if they're eligible or not? Because I've been dropping off documents at Metrotech as recently as twice in the past week. I'm just worried that I may have missed some deadline or something and will not be receiving a letter for January.

    Thumbs down Update

i got a couple of friends in the academy and they told me that there are going to be major changes in the academy including.....unfortunatly.... dropping the class size to 100 probies.

I hate posting this cause its gonna make everyone crazy, but i realize people want to know whats going on including myself.

Does anyone have any idea of what # they got up to on the list, with the first class?

I thought i was looking very good but now it appears I'm on the bubble for the next class.

Hey, fellas. Hope everyone's doing well. Hard to imagine with all this news flying around, right? Lol. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but does getting the letter for the run (and eventually passing) mean you have a spot in the January academy?

If you recieve a letter to report for the run and you pass, you have a spot in the academy.
