Has anyone spoken to their investigator regarding everything that has just surfaced within the last 24 hours? I'm just curious as to how this is being explained by those at Metrotech or if they are even acknowledging what is being said.

Rumor around the rock is it'll be the same amount (300 candidates) but with the shorter time and they will NOT be running more classes. Still two a year. If they shorten it to 3 months, for example, there will still only be 2 classes a year, with 6 months totall off-time. This will save money on, among other things, the overtime instructors are getting at the rock. Take it with a grain of salt-talk is talk (as we've found time and time again on this forum)

I don't know, I can't see them hiring 300, 2 classes a year anymore. Attrition rate is barely 300 a year , 100 plus overstaffed everyday as it is and already jan class might only be 200. So can somebody explain how its going to be 300 a class x 2 year???

Fyi
JUST GOT SOME INFO ON THE BUDGET. I WAS DOING SOME DIGGING AND FOUND MAYOR BLOOMBERGS OFFICIAL RELEASE ON THE BUDGET.
I CLICKED AND PASTED THE FOLLOWING:
Reducing peak headcount at the New York City Police Department by 1,000. Two police academy classes were planned for 2009. The peak headcount reduction will be achieved by canceling the January 2009 academy class. The July 2009 police academy class will add 2,000 new officers to the force as will subsequent classes.
Eliminating nighttime shifts at five engine companies in firehouses where ladder companies will remain fully staffed. Additionally, the firefighting training academy for probationary firefighters will be reduced from 23 weeks to 18 weeks.
READ THE LAST SENTENCE OF THE FIRST PARAGRAPH, IT APPEARS ITS AN INDICATION THAT IT WILL NOT AFFECT PROBIE SCHOOL CLASSES AS ALTHOUGH PD JAN CLASS IS CANCELLED, JULY 09 CLASS WILL CARRY 2K GUYS. MY LIST# IS 1953 - KEEPING THE HOPE ALIVE FOR JULY '09

hey spoke to a supervisor at metrotech today. I explained to her how everyone is getting nervous as should be its right in our reach. i am list number 11XX and i said will there def be a january 09 class she said yes. then i went on to ask her will they reach my list number. she said yes i should be recieving a letter in the mid to late stages of november for the run on Dec 7th. so although it may not be much info, the guys/girls below 11xx can ease there minds from what i heard today. best of luck to everyone ..and keep working hard almost here boys.

spoke to my investigator this morning and I was told that the class is still on as far as they know down there. I also asked about my chances of getting in at list number in mid #1400's and I was told definitely, they have already passed my number and all I have to worry about is finishing the run in under 12mins.

So yes things are rapidly changing, however I just wanted to see if anyone that was called in for documentation in August has received anything in the mail lately (I personally havent).
The DCAS folks at the CPAT Orientation were pretty confident then that Nov 17-21 was blocked off for testing for those folks. Curious if anyone got anything about it or if anyone heard that it was still on.

So... I've seen two newspapers so far that have announced this. Is this true? The firefighting training academy will reduce its program from 23 weeks to 18 weeks to save operational costs. The mayor, who drew criticism when he closed firehouses to save money during his first term, also plans to eliminate nighttime engine companies in five firehouses that also have ladder companies. The move allows those firehouses to stay open but with fewer firefighters at night.6019 / #22--

people must stop coming on here and ask questions without reading the posts before. YES it is now back to 18 weeks. FFFRED posted the city document that states that it is back to 18
stop second guessing everyone its all opinion unless its something like FFFRED posted.
stop trying to figure out ratios from past lists or figuring out how many binders they are ordering. With Bloomburg as mayor and the economic time like they are no one knows anything. Who would have thought they would cancel a PD class just after they signed a contract to boost starting pay to attract candidates
so everyone must just hold on and wait i know its hard but it does no one any good causong a frenzy
what should be posted is information on training for the academy for the people low on the list and info on how to pass the other stages of employment just like they were passed on to us by the 2043 guysLast edited by matty21; 11-05-2008 at 09:46 PM.

Actually it was the very senior to me FFFRED that posted the city link, but thank you.
matty21 has good advice here. This is new territory for me too, so just try to sit back and ride it out. Easier said than done I'm sure.
Stay in shape and stay out of trouble.
Hang tough,
