hold on a sec, they opened filing for this again??? what do they want, 100,000 people to take the test?? We shouldn't have to pay for this one, or the cpat, or any of this, we already paid, and it was worth nothing. and american citizens can now be taken to guantanamo without trial, for an indefinite period of time, all in the name if protecting us. americans are giving away all of their rights in order to help "fight terrorism" and, coupled with the police state we live in, we almost have no rights anymore. obama just signed some really powerful amendments.
How did you just transition from bitching about having to spend $25 for a chance to live the dream to anti-patriot act crap? They are not in the same ball park, let alone on the same planet.

Why shouldn't you have to pay for this one? It costs money for them to conduct the test, a lot more than what they will recoup through the filing fees. They held test #6019, the list was established, and people were hired. It isn't the city's fault that the list was killed prematurely, but you should celebrate the fact that they chose that instead of adopting a quota system. Test #2000 is an entirely new go around and as such you really shouldn't be surprised you are paying again. This isn't a repeat of 6019, this is a new beginning, so you should probably just accept that 6019 is in the past and forget it ever happened.

Also you realize that even if all 60,000 applicants pay $25 it only adds up to $1.5M? The city is spending at least double that to administer this test, and also I'm sure the department spends at least twice as much as that on a daily basis just conducting regular operations.

Maybe they can have a sleep over at MSG. Serve up whatever is your favor

and maybe a copy of the answer sheet. If not the results will be more of the

same. Stay safe and pray for a quick appeal in the real candidates favor.

He wasn't being anti patriotic, he was just saying we are loosing our american rights, I'm pretty sure he is a vet and is entitled to his opinion.

I did not say anti-patriotic, I said anti patriot act. I actually agree with him, however I fail to see how that in any way relates to this test.

It relates to this test because of this: we are losing our rights as white male test takers aren't we?? we are losing our rights to an un-biased method of forming an eligibles list! why did I have to fill in a circle for my race??we are losing our rights as americans here in 6019, and across the board in this country. think about it braah. I wasn't whining about taking another test, I don't care about that, but having to pay for all this again kind of sucks, not to mention 5,000 on lasik, travel expenses and exam fees, all the notary fees, it adds up. I don't make a ton of money. I am anti-patriot act if it means that american citizens can be whisked away to a secret jail with no rights, just like the enemies the act was made to protect us from. I was just combining my frustration with this lawsuit, the president, and our rights as a people. If I offended anyone, suck it up, this is a forum.
I should just forget 6019 ever happened?? wow, thats easy for you to say. were you on that list?? did you get an offer for employment to have it pulled away from you at the last moment, disappointing you and your family immensely? if you answered yes, why would you forget about that?? I will never forget the bull**** I have gone through for this job, so that once I get it, I will protect it, and see that the FDNY never gets into this mess again. Its the entitlement attitude that got us here in the first place. I love this country more than anything, and I hate to see it start to crumble like this.

I agree! I'm in the same position. I don't live in New York or have vet's preference. I somehow pulled a 99% out of my ***** on 6019 and made the top 3000. It has been a long four years sitting here waiting and knowing I would've called. The crappy thing is, we are still probably looking at another 3 years of waiting, but a select few of us will stand by, and do just that WAIT! My stomach turns every time I hear about the next move the Vulcan's are pulling. Going door to door dealing with people who can't even fill out the application is bs. Their argument is that they don't have anyone on the job to keep them interested. Well guess what neither do I. I don't need someone, I keep myself motivated and interested. We're not the first group to go through this either. I ran on a retired FDNY fireman the other day that informed me he waited almost seven years because of a discrimination suit dealing with woman not passing the physical in the seventies. Only thing we can do is stay positive, study, and train. Best of Luck to You Bro!!

A fraternal society and a federal judge trying to end what they perceive as white male privilege is not the same as the slow crawl we are making towards an authoritarian state that started 10 years ago. I don't agree with many aspects of the court case, however it is not entirely black and white, there is some merit to it, however I don't see how it can end positively since the only way they will radically change the hiring process is if they can force a quota system and the city seems prepared to pull out every imaginable stop in order to block that. Unfortunately we have to wait and see.

I was on that list however I was not in the group that almost made it. If I remember correctly the class was cancelled due to financial constraints, and by the time the city was in a position to afford to hire probys they were stuck with the court case, right? I'm sorry that you got screwed, and I don't think there is anybody on this board that thinks what happened was fair, however as you well know nothing is guaranteed when it comes to the City of New York, except that they got ya by the balls.

And yes, I really do believe you should forget 6019, it's in the past and there is nothing in this world that you can do that will change that.

    Default Computerized Exam?

Hey guys. Does anyone have any idea how long it'll take the city to set up the next list? It took them about a year to come out with 6019, but I figure it shouldn't take them too long since exam #2000 will be computerized (it is, right?). If anyone has any guesses please feel free to post. Thanks!
    6019- was sitting at 13xx
    2000- now sitting at 18xx

guy, its been pouring on us for a while, we don't need anyone else telling us to give up on 6019. As someone already stated, they ran into a retired firefighter that waited seven years because of a lawsuit, maybe we'll get our appeal, maybe not. We don't need anymore negativity. Thanks

Does anyone know of any current list or lawsuit pending for applicants who received an official acceptance letter from the FDNY back in Dec of 2008 of Exam6019? .. Everyone I talk to about my situation says they think there is something pending and/or an attorney working in this situation, but I can't seem to find anything anywhere online. I personally am taking this test again in February/March and starting over from scratch after being hired for the January 5th 2009 Class of Exam 6019. Everyone I talk to says to speak to an attorney or to put my name on this so called "list" because you never know how it can work out once hired in regard to back pay. Hope someone can share any information they have on this topic with me, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

    Default pilot program

    Monday, January 9, 2012
White Applicants for Upcoming FDNY Test Given Special Treatment Denied to Blacks, Asians, Hispanics and Others

    Merit Matters Press Release

    Monday, January 9th, 2012

Merit Matters has become aware of a “pilot program” approved by Special Monitor Mark Cohen and Judge Nicholas Garaufis that will benefit one group of applicants while excluding all others- and the race of the applicants is the sole determining factor in the decision to do so.

The bold headline at the top of this page is correct in all but one point- it is blacks who are being afforded special treatment, and whites and others who are being excluded.

Those who were outraged upon reading the headline should still be outraged; why wouldn’t they be? Discrimination against one is discrimination against all, is it not? As Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts has opined, the way to stop discrimination based on race is to stop discriminating based on race.

The “pilot program” (which is worrisome, as a pilot program is often expanded and becomes entrenched as official policy) to visit the homes of black applicants (and no other group) to allow them to “follow up” on incomplete applications is completely unacceptable to Merit Matters, and should be to everyone. Immediately upon learning of it we made numerous requests to the FDNY Recruitment Unit, FDNY EEO Unit and the Special Monitor because, while we don’t believe anyone should be allowed to submit a “completed” application 4 months after the application period has ended, if one group is allowed to all should be and Merit Matters would provide volunteers to visit all applicants- regardless of race. Our requests, which were first made before Christmas, were turned down and the first of three weekends of visits occurred this past weekend.

Another worrisome aspect of this episode is the reaction- or, more correctly, the lack of a reaction- to this blatantly racist act by the FDNY EEO Unit. In our contacts with them we urged that this Unit take whatever action is necessary to oppose and stop this discriminatory action or else explain how it does not violate FDNY EEO Policy which reads in part:

“The Fire Department is firmly committed to maintaining fair employment practices for its employees and applicants and ensuring that employment decisions are made without regard to color...gender...race...religi on...”

The advice given to us by EEO was to contact the NYC Law Department (which, to its credit, opposed this pilot program but was forced to comply with the court’s order), an avenue we were already pursuing. We responded by advising that an issue such as this is squarely in the EEO area of concern and should be addressed by them - but our advice went ignored. Perhaps the new leadership doesn’t realize that the first “E” in EEO stands for “Equal”, not “Extra”.

Merit Matters continues to call for equal treatment for all candidates and will visit anyone and everyone if the court allows. Time is of the essence, however, as the test is scheduled to begin at the end of February.

Please contact me with any questions.

I just wanted to stop by and mention that I moved to Brooklyn recently, from the Bronx and if there's anyone else in the area, I wouldn't mind hanging with some people who are interested in the job and/or were on 6019 with me. Seems like there's lots to do here in Brooklyn and I'm getting pretty bored, besides buffing a couple jobs a week... can't believe I'm admitting that.

City calls Brooklyn Federal Court Judge Nicholas Garaufis biased in ruling on FDNY’s minority hiring

Wants U.S. Court of Appeals to overturn decision and re-assign case

The city has blasted a federal judge who ruled the FDNY discriminates against minorities in its hiring, calling him media-obsessed and biased.
City lawyers asked that the U.S. Court of Appeals reverse Brooklyn Federal Court Judge Nicholas Garaufis’s decision — and assign the case to a "neutral arbiter."
In an unusually harsh attack, the city accused Garaufis of committing multiple legal errors in reaching his conclusion, being preoccupied with press coverage and acting as a "witness and advocate" for the Vulcan Society of black firefighters.
"The nature and extent of the … errors, especially the one-sided manner in which in which the evidence was analyzed, calls [Garaufis'\] impartiality into serious question," the city stated in a 139-page legal brief filed Wednesday.
City lawyers also said the judge blamed city officials for him being heavily criticized in the media as a result of his decisions.
"The Court's preoccupation with press coverage reinforces the many other indications that the city was deprived of a fair and neutral fact-finder," the city's papers state.
Last fall Garaufis ordered the appointment of an outside monitor with sweeping powers to overhaul the selection of entry-level firefighters for the next decade.
Previously the judge found that the city had "intentionally discriminated" against minority firefighter candidates through recruitment, testing and screening that officials knew was slanted against blacks and Hispanics.
The judge has leveled some of his strongest criticism against Mayor Bloomberg for failing to have the will to end discrimination in the FDNY, which he termed a "stubborn bastion of white male privilege."

The city said in its brief that should the appeals court overturn Garaufis' rulings, he shouldn’t get the case back because he doesn’t have the capacity to "reverse course and achieve impartiality."
