After standing on that line yesterday in front of the WTC steel sounding off F-D-N-Y, every moment spent going through the process was instantly validated.

Just wanted to say thanks to all the people who contributed good info along the way here it really helped.

Good luck to all the guys/gals going through the process now after just the processing day I can tell you it's all worth it...

YES, about $35K per year. Of course you will have to subtract the money for the CFR-D certification that you have to pay for.

    Haha, excellent answer calm.

The haircut answer. Buzzed at a 0(bare metal) is enough, don't have to go all mr. clean on yourself.

I'd also like to thank everyone here for helping me along the way. This thread is/ was the most helpful thing for me to get to my appointment. Tell guys you know about it and keep this thing rolling through the next classes. You'll come to appreciate as much as I do. If you have any questions about any process along the way, do yourself a favor and go back. We talked about EVERYTHING along the way. It's obviously in the order that it occurred to us. Thanks again to everyone, and let's clear up our "sh1t list" name out at the rock for the next guys.

It sure isn't going to be an easy summer. And I like that; trying to make myself worthy of being called a "brother" shouldn't be, not for the best department in the world.

Congrats to the first class, great work guys and good luck!!
    You have my best wishes.

Moving on, the people going for processing end of July please give us updates as to the process, anything new that has come up, interesting facts. Things of that nature.

So far this board has been amazing and lets keep it up

    Thumbs up

FOr the group in there yesterday, how 'bout the current class? They came in for all of a minute, but tight, organized... an impressive show of force with just a touch of intimidation.

If any of the 2043 people read this, everyone I talked to at the end of the day was left a bit shocked your class. Thanks for the demo!

For those of you who have not gotten packets in the mail yet, do yourself a favor and get the following items if you do not already have them, I spent all day yesterday running around to the DMV, SS office, court house, etc to get some papers together and the sooner you get it all done, the better:

    - Driving abstract, from any state you've ever been issued a license.
    - W-2's and SS earnings statement from 2003-2007. (That will cost $25 and must be a money order or check, so bring it with you!)
    - Disposition on any summons or arrest, yes even that juvi offense when you were 13.
    - Official college transcript.
    - Find your HS diploma, I know I haven't looked at mine since I got it!
    - SS card, birth certificate, immunization records, marriage license, divorce papers, etc.

Filling out previous jobs is real hard when you don't have pay stubs or something else with dates.

Time to go to the gym now after stressing over the paperwork all morning!

    Default background

Thanks ant, you gave me the answer I was looking for.

This is probably a question for a current firefighter, but if someone can answer it, it would be appreciated. I'm in the low 1000's, so I will deff be reached for january's class. I am currently not working as of 2 weeks ago. I've saved money where i could just workout full time, not have a job for these 6 mnths., and be ready to go in january. Does this look bad to the investigator or look like I am not a good candidate? Possibly disqualify me. Besides this my background is fine (I've come this far and if i have to i'll get another job)

THANKS in advance. Good luck to all of you in July. Keep us posted.

You're fine. Might need a "letter of support" saying that someone(your guardians) are providing for you, but it's not a big deal. I was technically unemployed although did pretty much the same thing as you.

    Talking meyerjack

    That is a circuit workout:
1 chest exercise (ie: flat bench) 20-25 reps\
1 tris (ie: bench dips) 20-25 etc...
1 upper back (ie: do as many pullups as you can)
1 lower back (ie: hyperextensions - do these to u cant do any more)
1 ab (ie: SITUPS - DO THESE TO U CANT DO ANY MORE)
    1 calf (ie: calf dips) 20 -25
    1 hamstring (SQUATS) 20-25
1 bis (ie: preacher curls) 20-25
1 shoulders (ie: arnold twist) 20-25

NO BREAKS IN BETWEEN EACH EXCERCISE. THIS WILL GET YOUR HEART PUMPING.
AFTER YOU DO EACH BODY PART ONCE START OVER WITH A LITTLE MORE WEIGHT WITH A FEW LESS REPS

    My workout schedule:
    Day 1: chest, tri's, shoulders
    Day 2: back, bi's, legs
    Day 3: off
    Day 4: Meyerjack circuit
    Day 5: off
    Day 6: Meyerjack
    Day 7: off

I also try to get at least 2-3 short runs (1.5-2 miles) in a week and 1 long run (3-4 miles)

I try to stick to this the best i can, my only problem is speed when i run, so i am trying sprints and hill running now.

GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY! I'M FREAKING PUMPED, CANT WAIT TILL THE 1sT!

Just to add to tcfd's post. Bring extra stuff like a boot polish kit, maybe an extra white t-shirt or a pair of socks stuff like that. Definitely an extra set of combo locks, pens, pencils etc. Squad leaders might think about picking up some disposable razors and a small can of shaving cream. As sure as I sit here at least one person will show up missing items or unshaven. Aside from it being the right thing to do the D.I.'s are not gonna want to hear "but I have MY stuff, sir". They're going to wanna know why we didn't back up our buddy like we should. Good luck to all see ya on 7/1.

Yeah, though I'm not a squad leader, I'm going to be bringing a extra few basic things like a razor and stuff for my guys. I really hope none of them forget anything though, would give me a bad impression on day one.
