Can any one tell the proper way to deploy a wooden extension ladder, fly section in or out, and why?

I was taught wooden ladders=Fly in, Aluminum=Fly out.
According to this, it assures secure footing.

This states that it is because the rungs are mounted on the top rail on wooden truss ladders.

I don't know about deploying. Watch webisode #9 of http://www.thebattalion.tv/. They talk a about wooden ladders. The ladder(s) shown in the webisode do appear to have the rungs mounted on the top rail...Firefighter/EMT
