My chief will be naming me as the Public Information Officer for our dept. This will be a new Captain's position. I asked him about getting a decent website for our dept as right now we currently only have a bare bones site maintained through a company our city uses. I'd like to know if anyone can give me assistance in setting up a site. I haven't got a clue as to how to find a website name, how to register it and so forth.
Thanks in advance!!

One way to start
There are a gazillion ways to set up a better website. My suggestion is to go to www.dollardomainname.com. You can register a website address cheaply, and the outfit also does web hosting, which means they will help you set up the actual website.
I used dollardomainname for my (non-fire-related) site, www.myronfloren.com, which simply redirects folks to my Yahoo! group that celebrates the famed Lawrence Welk accordionist.
I know--too much information.
Congrats on your chief naming you PIO.
Cheers,
Chuck
