And thats the way it should be! I try to tell people around here how in the greater dc area firefighters consider emergencies just that.... EMERGENCIES! Around here people say its unsafe to move too quickly in the station to the trucks for a call no matter how serious. In riding with some other departments (you know where I am talking about Harve ) it doesnt matter if there are 3 people or 13 people on the squad, if youre not on the truck and they have 3 (the minimum to roll) they are leaving, no matter who you are, you are left behind.

One day we had a five person crew and our captain who should have retired three years ago didn't make it to the truck so the lead man road the seat and we left him back.

Yup. Copy that! Most folks from outside the Mid-Atlantic look at me like I just stepped off a Flying Saucer or something when we talk about Response Times. Here, we are REQUIRED to be out the door within ONE MINUTE when dispatched. And we are.

UT OH!! I see charges forth coming!!!

I was never left during my time on the job. When I was riding the front seat, I had a policy as when I got address and step up on the running board, you are to be in your assigned riding positions. I did have to wait for my tillerman once. After we had a father to son talk, he made sure he would beat me to the rig.

If we have a structure fire, our tone would be: DOOOOOO, DOOOOOO, BEEEEEP, BOOOOOP, BOOOOO, DUUUUUU, DOOOOO, DUUUUUU, BEEEEEEP, DOOOOO and DOOOOOOO, DUUUUUUU if we have a staffed Truck.

Medical Calls are DOOOOOOO, DOOOOO, DUUUUUUU, DUUUU
