Does anyone have any great fire quotes that they either live by while serving, or a quote that has really affected you throughout the years? Any motivational quotes?
One quote that I have always like is...
"Let no mans ghost ever come back and say his training failed him."
This is posted at the National Fire Academy. And though it's only a sentence it really says a lot about the fire service and some dinosaurs who think we don't need to train.

This is something that stuck with me for a while and obviously still does. This is what an Engine Company Officer told me when I was Reserve and I was asking for advice to take the paid position out here in Nevada.
"Do you want to work on an ambulance your whole life or do you want to be a Fireman?"One day when I grow up I hope to be just like Fyred Up and Deputy Marshal.

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

A few I can remember:
I have more time in front of a firehouse ****er than you have on the job.
You can train a monkey to advance a hose by throwing bananas down the hall
If you are dumber than a termite you can be a firefighter. Throw a termite infested log on a campfire...all the termites run out... A firefighter runs in.
You can have 100 ataboys but it only takes one awwsh*t to wipe them out.
EMS...every minute sucks.
You've gotta be hosing me.
Keep your mouth shut and eyes and ears open.

You my friend are a total dip. If it wasn't for ambulance companies, we would have a much longer shift, and hell of allot more to bitch about. Show some respect to our brothers and sisters doing full time EMS and be thankful for the job you have.
As far as quotes go, "Brotherhood above all else" sums it up for me pretty well.Greater love has no man than to lay his life down for a friend.

Yeah, as long it is used at the right time and for the right reason. It seems lately though, people have been invoking the "Brotherhood Clause" after they screw the pooch or are trying to keep from getting jammed up after said pooch has been screwed.
Sometimes you have to ask the question...."Are you standing up for Brotherhood? Or, is Brotherhood standing-up for you?"
Standard FD quotes are pretty clich'e and boring.
My quote?....."Don't be that guy!"Last edited by FDAIC485; 01-26-2008 at 08:15 AM.

Amateurs practice until they get it right; professionals practice until they cannot get it wrong. Which one are you?
'The fire went out and nobody got hurt' is a poor excuse for a fireground critique.

I've always liked
"Never miss an opportunity to shut up."
And then there's the quote in my signature about stupidity, which is original and of my own creation, and I guess I am a bit flattered to have seen other people use it.Last edited by ElectricHoser; 01-26-2008 at 08:43 AM.
