The Weir Volunteer Fire Department (Weir, TX) announces the creation of a new Resident Firefighter Program. In July 2008 we will appoint 6 firefighters to live rent-free at the fire station in return for working station duty on a 24/48 hour shift rotation. We have applied for a SAFER Grant that will allow us to pay for any and all Fire/EMS training or college coursework that Resident Firefighters may want.

We are located in Williamson County (Central Texas), one of the fastest growing areas of the country. We anticipate the need for paid staffing in the years to come, and plan to integrate paid staffing with this Resident Fire Program and our current volunteers.
