Which book would you recommend?
I'm writing a report for my Fire Protection Law class and I've narrowed it down to two choices. I'm not sure which to go with, but I figured this would be a great place to get some opinions on which book I should order.
The first of the two books seems to be extremely well known in the fire service. It's titled, "Report from Engine Co. 82" written by Dennis Smith. This is a book that I will probably buy and read even if I choose a different book for my report. I've heard nothing but good things about this author and his ability to share his experiences during his fire service career.
The second book that I've been told to check out is titled, "First In, Last Out: Leadership Lessons from the New York Fire Department" written by John Salka. This book was on a "pre-approved" list of books that students had written reports on in the past and after spending a few minutes online reading some reviews from various websites, I've come to the conclusion this is another book that would not only be great for my report, but also for my career.
Anyway, if anyone here could throw in their "two cents" about these books I'd appreciate it very much!

While both books you mentioned are excellent resources, another would be
THE FIRE LOVER: A True Story by Joseph Wambaugh. Picked it up at the airport a couple of years ago, and couldn't put it down. You could follow it up by watching the HBO movie POINT OF ORIGIN, based on the Fire Lover novel.
FGIACOJ.... "Carpe Elkhartem"
(Seize the Nozzle)
"Victorious warriors win first,
and then go to war,
while defeated warriors go to war first,
and then seek to win."
