    Default Little Problem

We are a volunteer department located in Tennessee. We have a 1990 pumper that we recieved in 2004 through AFG, a 1984 Mack 4200 gallon tanker, a 1980 E-One 1350 gallon tanker, and a 1978 American Lafrance 100' Ladder Chief. The local government bought us the 1980 tanker in 2001, and the 84 tanker and the ladder were donated to the department. The 84 tanker was donated in December of 07. We were rejected by the computer in 2007 for a $150K to replace our 1980 tanker that has been out of service since March of 07 with mechanical issues. The department is still looking at replacing our 1980 tanker since we are the main water support district for the entire county but we feel that since we had the 1984 tanker, it would be a waste of time to apply.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just because the computer rejected you doesn't mean you didn't need it, just means that there were needier apps that scored higher. Only 650 trucks or so are being awarded in 2007 out of nearly 8,000 apps. Compared to someone with only 1 tanker, technically the 84 did hurt since that will show that they have a greater need with only 1 water supply truck over your 2. The computer scores can vary by tenths of a point, so that's all that may have kept you out of Peer Review.

Unless you can buy the tanker (or any project) you applied for, it's never a waste of time to submit an application. Especially if it's done already, like yours is. It's free to play the game, but they can't say yes if you're not in it.

Thanks for the reply Brian. We were also looking at possibly trying to get an attack or small truck to start running medical calls. Also what would be the chances of getting awarded an engine to replace our tanker instead of applying for a new tanker?

Sorry for the dumb questions, im just trying to figure out the best way for us to go this year with our situation.

If you NEED a tanker write an app for a tanker. If you NEED a pumper writ a pumper/tanker app. If you want to run medical calls buy an Ambulance!
Trying to justify a brush/mini attack by saying you want to start running medical calls is just wrong.

Jackson, depends on what you need like island said. If you have the need for a tanker, asking for a pumper won't have any meat to it, unless you need one of those too. If you need all 3 types of truck, then have to debate which one is needed more.
