30 January
Springhill Lake, a large garden-style apartment complex was again the scene of two working fires, one that went to a second alarm.
"Springhill Lake Doubleheader"
First-due companies on the second fire found a large amount of fire extending into the floor above and reports of people trapped. Hwoods' Rescue/Engine 818 took it in on the 2nd-alarm.
A little way toward the west, in Montgomery County, companies in the Wheaton area ran an apartment fire where a baby was dropped from a apartment window.
And in the District, DCFD worked a 2nd-alarm row-house fire at 2710 Cathedral Avenue, NW. There is a small note that a close hydrant was out of service.

"If you put the fire out right in the first place, you won't have to jump out the window."
