    Ryan,

Why does Texas have a cut-off age of 36 in most of the department's hiring there. Seem's like age discrimination to me?

Not sure. I think that is limited to civil service departments only. There are plenty of smaller cities without the cut-off.

balch springs(small poor town... I dont know much about it... they probably get some fire)

Cedar Hill(its growing but is land locked. Staffing is wierd there)

Coppell(growing fort worth suburb... not much fire though)

hutchins(not north dallas but near Waxahachie. Nough said)

Mansfield(booming town with lots of growth both population wise and departmental wise. Has its issues though)

Plano(big $$ but you got to bring your A game to the table. From what I've heard, both inside and outside the department A: not much brotherhood and a lot are there just for the $$$ which is one of the, if not the highest paid department in the area. $$$ wise, only them and Frisco make the top dollars. Mckinney isnt far behind.")

The Colony( dont know much about it. Kind of small)

Trophy Club(rich small neighboorhood. Small quiet department)

Wylie(they pay nice. Small town but its a nice town.)

Dallas was taking apps, dont know if they still do. One of the largest in the nation but, if your gonna go big, why not go Houston? 3rd largest department in the nation and they test quite often.

Civil Service laws allow them to do the cut off at 36. But, I think you might be able to challenge that with enough $$$.

Cost of living in Texas is pretty cheap depending where you go. Dont look around Plano looking to live cheap. Most cities that are decent pay decently. If you have your medic patch, its pretty easy to get a job IF YOUR IN SHAPE AND HAVE A GOOD BACKGROUND. If you dont have a medic patch, your gonna have to work hard for it.

Hope that helps. If you need anything thing, just drop me a PM. I have a pretty good working knowledge of the area.

I tried to reply to your message nate but you wont accept PM's or something like that.

Here is part of the message.

Now, being where you are at, quite a few cities will hire you just with your medic patch. I believe Cedar Hill and Mansfield will. I dont know if Duncanville will... they might. Also, midlothian is somewhere to look at too. How far along are you into your schooling?

Mansfield is taking apps now. You could at least call down to their admin building and talk to someone who is in charge and they might let you put your app in if your somewhat close.

Now, with that being said, when you do that, they will make you sign a contract giving them at least X number years working for them, normally 3, if they put you through school.

But, having your medic patch allows you to work part time while you go to school on your own.
