It's still early. Only 4 rounds have been announced for $8,228,338 out of the $115,000,000 appropriation.

Just felt the need to bump this. I haven't heard anything about possible DJ dates or any statistics.

    Default 10 questions

Looks like it may be happy dance time, just recieved the ten questions for hiring and recruiting/retaining!!

Now I have to go back to City Council to remind them of their commitment.

Turning out to be a good year for us!

Well enough celebrating back to the AFG.

I found an award number this morning on the Recruitment and Retention Grant I wrote for the Idaho Volunteer Firefighters and Emergency Services Association.

$310,000 for a statewide television advertising campaign.

Doing the happy dance this morning

Went so long without getting any grants and now I have written a successful FP&S, Operations and SAFER

Whew, we're going to be awarded this week for recruitment and retention.

    $445,000!

I successfully appealed a $150,900 reduction on the original offer, so always remember to justify your need.

    Thanks,

We applied for $8500 a year with our SAFER grant

    $2000.00 = Service Awards
    $3000.00 = Recruitment and Retention
    $3500.00 = Training Costs

I gotta say FEMA has treated us well.

    Default New SAFER Awards

FYI, the latest round of SAFER awards was announced today, 24 awards evenly split with 12 awards for hiring and 12 awards for recruitment/retention.

Congratulations to all. I sure would be interested in anyone who received a recruitment award that they are willing to share. Please forward to dlewis@mfri.org.

Thanks and again, congrats to the winners. Now, back to AFGP writing.

Default SAFER amendment Q's for BC or KB

Safer awarded in 2006 - it included a 6 figure amount for tutition reimbursement and approx. $8k per yr to send explorers to Ohio Youth Fire & EMS academy.
we have an issue with having 20 SCBA bottles going out of town for a week - so I was able to negotiate a rental - $300 per for about 10 days.
This would put us way over grant amount for academy - but we have had an exodus of young members to NYC paying jobs - so I will have excess funds in this area. I asked if I could amend grant and shift funding - received a NO reply. Any idea why? Should I request an explanation?

Why we have not been awarded the safer act grant?
    1. We are a combination dept running over 2000 fire and EMS calls a year.
    2. We only have 12 volunteers and 8 paid firefighters.
    3. Paid staff works 12hr shifts and after 7pm we all respond from home.
Reading the SAFER ACT grant it was like it was written for us.
Any ideas or thoughts?????????????????????? (We asked for 5 more firefighter
so we could go to 24 hour shift.)
