    Default Alcohol

Does anyone know any laws or regulations that directly prohibits alcohol in fire dept buildings. If so, can you give me statute numbers or just a lead as where I can find it?

    Thanks

There really is no law or regulation. Your city/township/department etc can ban it but there's nothing set in stone as far as state or federal law.

I believe the law that establishes fire protection districts does restrict how alcohol is served in district buildings as well as the frequency at which it can be available.

But who cares if there is a law or not...there's no place for alcohol in a firehouse. Ever.
My comments are sometimes educated, sometimes informed and sometimes just blowing smoke...but they are always mine and mine alone and do not reflect upon anyone else (especially my employer).

I agree the firehouse is no place for alcohol. However the powers at be dont see it that way. It does not get abused there like it use to, there is very little drinking there anymore. However, some of my smokers are throwing a fit because smoking is not allowed but guys can have a beer during meals.

    Thanks for the info.

Chief, think about this scenario. As a fire district, if funded by taxpayers, a fire department is a public entity. What are the laws governing drinking in public buildings not covered by a liquor license? I'm not a lawyer so I have no idea, but I bet a case can be made. Several years ago our policy was amended to allow alcohol only during any fundraising activities as covered by dram shop policies as per our insurance provider. Not sure if that was the exact reason or even legally valid and don't care. Station's been alcohol free ever since.

Told my wife I'm at work. Told my boss I'm sick. I'm really at the fire station.

Let you'r insurance company know that you have alcohol in the building that is available to anyone. They will throw a fit!
