    Default Anyone Got Fundraising Ideas

    Volunteer MN Dept looking for ideas to raise money. Currently we do Turbo Bingo, kids fishing contest and fireman dance. Any new ideas that have been successful? We actively pursue grants and foundations.

    Here are a couple of inexpensive fundraisers that yield a good return.

    1) Fundraising letter sent to each household and business in town/city. Have the letter expain how the department operates, the reasoning for fundraising and where the funds will go to. Also a great opportunity to recruit new volunteers. Supply a SASE with the letter; it will provide a better return in the long run. A department started this about 20 years ago and recieves well over $10,000 annually from a population around 6,000.

    2) Cash calenders have become a popular way to raise funds. For a $10 investment a person has the chance to win a cash prize on any given day. Ex. The one I have from my son's school awards $50 every day except for Fridays when it's $100.

    Our bass fishing tournament got so large we were outoding the pros and State Game & Fish came in and limited the number of boats we could have. It was raising a good $10K for us during its heydey. I see a lot of departments doing Texas Hold Em tournaments. HAve doen quite a few KAraoke dances and contests as well.

    Raffle off items periodically. Guns, TV's, even a motorcycle. My home town department sells $100 raffle tickets (250 of them) and that entitles the holder to a steak or chicken dinner for 2 at the firehouse. They draw 3 prizes, the grand prize being $10,000. It works well, and they end up with about 10k profit. My IAFF Local also held a rodeo. There are companies that do turn key events and you control the gate and sponsors.

    Yah brother give your local radio stations a shout. They are usually good for a couple of bucks and theyll usually let you announce your cause on the radio.

    Harley Raffles are quite popular around here.

    Buy a $19K bike, sell 2,000 tickets at $15 = profit of $11,000.

    Depending on your location, small games and gambling laws may come into affect; be sure to check it out.

    The one fund raiser that we run regularly through the winter months are sub sales. These are put together at our fire station with the help of our auxiliary and a 4-H group. We use 22" sub rolls, 4 slices of ham, 5 slices bologna, 5 slices of Salami, and 5 slices of cheese along with a bag of lettuce, bag of pickles, tomatoes, a bag of onions, and 3 packets of dressing. We sell them for $6 each with a profit of around $2.75. Sold 1600 of these last month and are shooting for 2000 this month. Should be a profit of around $5500 for two days work making them. Good luck.

    We give the 4-H group a dollar for each sub they sell. We also sign off for the amount of service hours they spend helping us make them. Definitely a win/win situation. You should see that group of kids slapping the subs together!!!

    Default Just an idea

    Here is an idea our firefighters association is putting together for a restoration project of a 1927 American LaFrance Ladder Truck:

    We have several "halls" in town that host fundraisers for themselves. One has a Harley Giveaway (about a $12,000 bike). One has a "Hunters Extravaganza" in which they give away a four wheeler, a guided hunting trip, guns and hunting gear. Another has a $10,000 giveaway. They give away the big prizes as well as a few conselation prizes.

    Here is the secret to these. They sell 400 tickets, no more or no less, for $125 each ticket (good for 2 people). That makes a total of 800 people that will attend. It amounts to $50,000. With this ticket, it includes a steak dinner for 2, open bar all night for 2 and of course your chances at winning.

    We are guessing the following figures on this:

    Prizes = $14,000
    Bar = $8,000
    Dinner = $6,000
    Misc Supplies = $2,000

    Total Expenses = $30,000

    Total Profit = $20,000

    Looks good but it will take a lot of work and lot of planning. We would HAVE to sell all 400 tickets to make our money.

    A couple of area volunteer fire departments host Chili Suppers, Fish Fries as well as a Barn Dance with BBQ dinner and auctions.

    Hope this helps someone with some ideas.

    At our fish fry we take only donations instead of a set price per plate. We sold 400 plates last year and made 8000. with 6900 profit.

    We do a charity auction..We send out letters asking people to clean out there homes and donate the items to the fire company, and let them know they can write off there donation. Then find an acutioneer in your area to donate his time and have a great day!!! We have recieved some cars, a boat, free camping trips, dinners... resources are endless. We have made over $5000. We have done a Harley raffle 14K bike $10 ticket 2000 tickets, 6K profit. Also Family circus ( fun for all ages ) we have made $3000 for a day.

    Not sure what restaurants are located around you, but my dept has done this.

    Some restaurants will give you a fundraising night. Everyone that comes in that evening and presents a flyer for the fundraising event gets 15% of their bill donated to the FD by the restaurant.

    Ex. 100 people come in and present the flyer, spend a total of $5000, the FD gets $750.

    Our department has bi-annual omelette breakfast. For our small town of 500 people we make about 1500.00 per breakfast. It is also good community relations. We also host a Thanksgiving night dance. It sounds kind of strange, but we draw a big crowd. All the college students come back home and they have nothing to do so they come to the dance. We probably bring in around a couple of grand. Not bad for having fun.

    We have had: shooting matches, chicken bar-b-ques, soup suppers, breakfasts, dances, demolition derbies, auctions, ATV drag races, 4x4 truck mud drags, 4x4 truck mud bogs, standby for burning of a house for a gun safe commercial, & 50/50 pot at our demos & mud events.

    For this summer, we are considering a couple of softball tourneys and some mud bogs.

    A neighboring department parks cars at the county fair, car races, & high school ball games. Others have one and two day festivals with fish frys.

    We have two fish fries a year, second Saturday in April and second Saturday in October. we have been doing this for 15 years. We sell 500+ plates per fry and the two fund raisers brings a profit of $6000 to $8000 per year. Most of all it brings the public to our facility so we can let the public see what they are getting for their money
