Interior Firefighter Physicals

I belong to a volunteer co in New York state. I am looking for the law which states that all interior firefighters have an annual physical.

If there is a law it would have to be specific to New York State. There is no federal requirement for annual exams. OSHA requires the completion of a medical questionaire as part of its respiratory protection standard (29 CFR 1910.134) but this is mostly a one time deal except in certain cirumstances. OSHA in its HAZWOPER standard (29 CFR 1910.120) requires hazmat techs to have regular physicals. NFPA has various standards including 1500 that mention annual firefighter physicals but as we know NFPA is not law unless adopted by a governing body. Hope this helps. im in New York and we do a physical and when the paperwork goes to the station from the doctor is says when we need our next one. can be good for 1-5yrs

Is that a department policy, a municpal ordinance or some type of state reg. In other words who requires you to have an annual exam ? I think its a great idea but just wondering...............

Ok...maybe a dumb question...but what is An Interior firefighter?? Are not all firefighters Interior firefighters?

Not all firefighters are interior. In Volunteer Departments you have interior and exterior firefighters.

Interior firefighters are pack qualified and have the required training

Exterior firefighters are not pack qualified and may not have the required training
