I don't know who makes the firestore.com shields, but if you would like another option you might want to check out D.E. Williams Sheilds. They are a small company that is owned by some firefighters out of Bullhead City, AZ. The shields are made out of two layers of helmet grade leather, (no fillers, no tin backing) with every detail stitched together front to back (8 stitches per inch.) The shields also come with a lifetime guarantee, if your shield should bubble, shrink, or deform during its life, you can return it and they make you a new one. Then they will ship it both shields back to you for free. they offer just as many options and types of sheilds as firestore.com and they cost around the same amount as other shields (@ $42.00 total) but, I think that they are of a higher quality, plus the customer sevice it great. I purchase 3 shields from them in the past and all three have held up great. I know this did not answer your question, but I hope that it helps you, if you were looking for a leather shileld that is made in the U.S.A. by firemen.

    Good luck and Stay Safe

    Hey Bull,

Thanks for the info on D.E. Williams. I had seen them before but never really paid that much attention to all the "extras" they offer that are included with the shield. Any future shields I order will most likely be form them. The last one I ordered for my work lid came from TFS because I was ordering new inserts for everyone else at my firehouse. I didn't want to run into a fit issue on the inserts. Since I was already ordering for them I just ordered mine there as well. One training fire later the shield shrank, and all the panel lettering bubbled up. Needless to say I'm not super pleased. I have used PCS as well for some custom work for "show" helmets I have done, Note Dame, Indy Colts etc. I was just curious where The Fire Store has theirs made.

    Thanks again for the info.

    Dave
Sorry about taking so long to get back to you. Thanks Mzanghetti for posting the web address. Heads up I have never purchased a pass port shield from D.E. Williams but if they hold up half as well as the standard shields do, they are still the best. By the way they make shields for about every type of fire helmet. They even make leather shields for those funny looking California helmets. HAHAHAHA! Just kidding,

    fire1035,

Nothing against DE Williams or Sam Brown , as I have worn shields from both, but if you want the ultimate in a handcrafted, unique and traditional looking shield, give Jeremiah Keyes (775-945-3432) from Hawthorne, NV a call. He is retired from a department in NorCal and does the BEST shields, hands down, that money can buy. It is a one-piece, 16oz helmet shield with a hand etched, hand painted design of your choosing, delivered to your door. No B.S., just a fireman's fireman doing some really old world craftsmanship. And they hold up better than any other sewn shield out there. In my younger days I burned the ridges of a N5A before the paint even bubbled on his shield.

    Brother,
As long as L.A. style helmets are the same as California style helmets, they make a "standard and short" L.A. front. Look on the Leather Shields Page:

    6" shields
    New York Shields
    L.A. Shields
    L.A. Short
    (and others)

If I'm wrong, then I'm sorry for miss leading anyone. I dont wear a salad bowl, so I have a hard time time telling them apart. Calffbou, I'm just giving you a hard time, brother.

    Stay Safe.

Cant offer much help here, but I can tell you that both sheilds I have ordered from TFS were in my hands in less than two weeks. Even though they advertise a 6 week turnaround time. Great quality for the money too.

Just to make sure, are those LA Style helmets the same thing California Style helmets? And if so, will the D.E. Williams shields fit your helmet. Just asking.

Nah they're not from PCS. They ship from CA, and PCS is in WI.
