Can you explain winter to me Chief, over here it hasn't rained in over 3 months, if not longer, I think I might just concrete my front and back yards.

When I come over in a few months I will have to see what water looks like, be nice to see.

It is cool with the ice on them.

Never really understood what they are supposed to do, they sure don't flash or grab the attention of traffic. At least not the ones I have seen anyway. To each his own...

Tradition has a lot to do with it, but if you check out this vid:

I wish I saw this earlier, I was gonna use the "roto ray on a school bus" thing. But so many people beat me to it!

For those of you that haven't seen Harve's rigs in person, they really are school bus yellow. I would either describe it like that or like that yellow mustard color poop that babies have!

Oh yeah, the ice thing is really cool. I have never seen that happen before.

That Irresponsible attack will have you spending the rest of your career on A836 on Daywork!!..........

I never saw ice on a NEW STYLE Roto Ray before, but the cause is the same as on the Older, Much Slower models. Rain or Drizzle coats the warm bulb, which then gets blown off by the breeze of the moving vehicle. As the moisture gets off the warm Lamp onto the cold metal housing, it freezes. As you would think, conditions have to be just right.

For those who wonder about old and new model Roto Rays, the "Buckeye Roto Ray" as first made (in Columbus, Ohio) and used predominately on Seagrave apparaus, (made in Columbus, Ohio, then) turned much slower than today's model. (Most were 6 volts, back then) Each bulb was set at a slight angle off of straight forward, and when operating, this provided a sharp flash every 2 or 3 seconds, instead of today's "Blur".

I agree, the older ones actually spun slower making a bright flash. The new ones spin so fast it's just a blur.

I was in PG County right near the Calverton station at my sister's Championship Ice Hockey game(Which they won in a shoot-out) coming from NC and having the heat on while in the car but when getting out of the car at McDonald's after dropper her off at the rink to get a cup of coffee my body shivered a bit as I have not really been in 27degree weather for about a year or so I think it was definitely cold enough to produce icicles on the roto-rays.
