Default Any Tips for aeriel ladders?

    Hey all,
I have recently begun riding on my departments aeriel apparatus and I am finding it difficult to climb the aeriel when the angle is very low. At low angles I almost have to crouch to hold onto the rails, which seem so short. Is this normal. Any advice on how to get use to acending and descending an aeriel???

What angle are we talking?? Not gonna like my answer, because it may upset the NFPA guru's, but I stand and walk up and down when the angle permits. Just becarful!!

Agree with boston if it's close to flat stand up. Crotching will hurt your back and you need to keep her head up so u can assess the changing building and decide how your gonna complete your task.

I agree what efd said above. You can also try holding onto the sides and using them like handrails in a sort of crouched position. Thats what I do at low angles.

    Cool Good Advice.....

Standing-up when climbing is good advice..... However, check your Department's SOG/SOP Books to make sure you're not gonna get in to trouble when the Chief pulls-up..... I know he always shows-up when I'm breakin' the rules..... LMAO
