Kentland Fire Department
I keep hearing about Kentland Fire Departmnat and I want to learn some Info about them. Is Prince G County all one fire department? How Busy is Kentland I keep hearing they are as busy as D.C Engine 10 who runs over 7,000 runs a year and I can't understand how a volly engine Co can run as much as 7,000. Also is D.C part of Prince G Countys department ( do they go out as mutal aid for them) ??????

for it to be Gonz, someone needs to draw a mustache on the sourpuss on the left and for the middle to be ChicagoFF, he needs to be a little more portlyThe Box. You opened it. We Came...

Well, at the risk of being being called a Kentland groupie, I'll tell you what I know about them. Harve, Cap, (or anyone else), please feel free to correct anything I post.
There is a PGFD, it employs something like 1600 employees. They staff both county-owned and volunteer-owned apparatus. There are many independent VFD's within the county, often called corporations. Kentland is one of those many VFD's. They have two stations, 33 and 46, but don't claim 46 at all. Kentland 33 is 100% volunteer and has been for about 6 years now.
The call volume is based on the number of individual apparatus responses. For example, if the engine, rescue-engine, and tower all respond to one call, that's considered three responses. Nevertheless, they're still doing several thousand calls a year without career staff. They have a live-in program where many of their members actually live at the station, allowing them to maintain their staffing.
Many (most?) of the Kentland members are career FF's in nearby jurisdictions.
Kentland is hated and made fun of by most of the fire service for their attitudes, aggressiveness, and self-serving attitudes. Hell, do a search for "Kentland" on this website and see what you come back with!
Rarely does DC require mutual aid, but yes, 33 has done fill-ins in the District.

Amateurs practice until they get it right; professionals practice until they cannot get it wrong. Which one are you?
'The fire went out and nobody got hurt' is a poor excuse for a fireground critique.
